One more thing that U.S. TV is behind on.

So i am a geek, that's no secret. And i have been thouroughly enjoying season 2 of the new DR Who. David Tennant is great, and Billie is hot. They are great, but here's where BBC kicks ass. they know it's popular right? of course, so what do they do? do they have some piece of shit website where you can read a two line synopsis and maybe a wallpaper or two? NO. They have downloadable Commentary from the producer, director, and executive producer for EACH EPISODE!!! FREE. Fucking rad. the show plays on BBC 1, then you can watch "doctor who condfidential" on BBC3 or you can dl it. It's fucking rad. BBC really does it right, oh and for each episode they have about 20 wallpapers that are rad. sounds to download and wallpapers for my mobile. how rad is that?

American TV channels can learn a thing or two on how to run a fucking website from BBC. I tried to look up when hockey was on on NBC's website and it was so loaded down with crap that it took forever to load, and to get to the hockey site, it was crap. BBC rules.

Thanks to all the people who work on it.

PS i expect a Miami Vice review soon. i will try and squeeze it into my busy schedule next week. maybe monday?

Seattle Trip '06 ;)

07-29-06_2209.jpg, originally uploaded by Joefrazier4th.

Capitol hill block party was RAD. Murder City Devils reunion in the middle of Pike and Broadway. there was probably close to 500 people there, easily maybe 750. it was way rad and the show kicked ass.

PS i went used book shopping and used CD shopping and SEattle is way better for both than portland, probably because it's a much bigger town. i got a great francios truffaut book, some spenser books, a couple used Hellacopters CD's, the new T.I. cd (King) and Run The Road a great comp. I have never seen a used hellacopters cd before. really. Never, i picked up high visibility which rules, and supershitty to the max with the old cover. Also at a cd store i found an original copy of Bouncing souls first cd. The edition i have on the cd says something about how they had to change the picture to aviod getting sued, and i could never find any info on what it used to be. So they actually had it. and guess what it's an mtv symbol with a circle and line thru it. HA HA. so that question i can put to rest. finally.

apparently the reason that i thought the baseball game was boring even though the score was 6-5 at the end of the fifth inning, was that i didn't drink. hmmmm i like my sports sober. especially hockey, i want to watch every second of it.

Pirates 2

THis weekend i really wanted to see clerks 2. But all my friends ditched out to do other stuff, so i ended up seeing this movie. It wasn't that great. It was ok. It's exactly what you'd expect. Action Adventure, a dog with keys. There was a Cracken in it too which was kinda cool, but not really that cool. i dunno it seems to me like the whole pirate faze was cool about 2001. but has been kinda picked up by people my parents age as being cool now, and it's just kinda lame and tired. Orlando acts like he doesn't really care, KK is fucking hot, the only one who really suprised me in this was Johnny Depp. He was really good, and i was expecting him to be lame and watered down version of his character in the previous movie. but he got meaner and shitteir, which i liked. over all this movie was decent but nothing new. I liked it but didn't love it. I won't be buying this on dvd anytime soon, unless the third one really ties it all together. I don't own the first one and that says something, if i don't own a movie.

Big Trouble in Little China

This movie is the best. Period. It rules. From beggining to end it is rad.

4.7 out 5 egg shans.

Wedding Crashers

So after so much hype about the last two movies I decided to finally bite the bullet and watch them. and they were ok. This movie had some funny parts but i didn't think it was as funny as everyone said. I did enjoy it though.

It had it's moments, like when VV finally punched that annoying guy at the end. That was rad.

I like VV alot, he can be one of my favorite actors i mean come on swingers? what that movie fucking ruled. Made? i liked that movie alot. Oldschool, well i didn't like that movie that much, if only for the fact that a bunch of duchebags liked it and quoted it to death. Swingers was quoted to death too, but at least it wasn't jock douche bags yelling "your my boy blue" over and over again. what a load of shit.

anyway VV in this movie was funny,

40 year old virgin

This movie was pretty funny. There was some stuff that's pretty funny. I liked the guy from freaks and geeks alot. The action figure stuff was alittle close to home though.

over all i liked the main character, and i am loking forward to checking out the tv show undeclared. cuz the same guy that did freaks and geeks and this movie made that too.

2 out 5 because everyone hyped it up.

Grandma's Boy

this movie is really fucking funny. I thought it was going to be stupid, but damn it's funny. I was in the mood for stupid comedies, so i got this, and two other movies which i will be reviewing as i watch them.

Anyway this movie is from the producers of all the adam Sandler movies, and you could totally plop him into lead character but it's kinda nice to see the supporting characters from all those Adam Sandler movies shine on thier own.

It is full of stupid stuff and all kinds of movie cliches that i saw coming a mile away, however it was still enjoyable.

one of the best lines was when a fat kid had his head in some tits and he said they tasted like she-ra.

i especially like the fourth bullet point.

Scott Rosen Speaks out Against Bush's stance on Stem cells

If Bush and his administration truly believe that destroying an embryo is a kind of murder, they shouldn't be wasting their time arguing about research funding: They should immediately shut down every fertility clinic in the country, arrest the doctors and staff who operate them, and charge all the wannabe parents who have been wantonly slaughtering legions of the unborn.

i don't know if this is true or not but if it is it's gonna be cool

The Red Planet is about to be spectacular!
>
>This month and next, Earth is catching up with Mars in an encounter
>that
>
>will culminate in the closest approach between the two planets in
>recorded history. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.
>Due to the way Jupiter's gravity tugs on Mars and perturbs its orbit,
>astronomers can only be certain that Mars has not come this close to
>Earth in the Last 5,000 years, but it may be as long as 60,000 years
>before it happens again.
>
>The encounter will culminate on August 27th when Mars comes to within
>34,649,589 miles of Earth and will be (next to the moon) the brightest
>object in the night sky. It will attain a magnitude of - 2.9 and will
>appear 25.11 arc seconds wide. At a modest 75-power magnification
>
>
>Mars will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye .
>Mars will be easy to spot. At the
>beginning of August it will rise in the east at 10p.m.
>and reach its azimuth at about 3 a.m.
>
>By the end of August when the two planets are closest, Mars will rise
>at nightfall and reach its highest point in the sky at 12:30a.m. That's
>pretty convenient to see something that no human being has seen in
>recorded history. So, mark your calendar at the beginning of August to
>see Mars grow progressively brighter and brighter throughout the month.
>Share this with your children and grandchildren.
>
>NO ONE ALIVE TODAY WILL EVER SEE THIS AGAIN

hmmm

we'll find out next month if it's true or not.

a message to the RIAA

If you want to make more money. Make a better product. How about them apples.

Don't do stupid stuff, like license song lyrics.

Why don't these people friggin get it.

A Scanner Darkly

I have been waiting to see this movie for over a year now. They kept pushing back therelease date, and i finally got so see it. was the wait worth it? for me, no. Was it a good movie? Yes. Did i want it to be more sci-fi and less Naked Lunch? yes. So i wasn't really in the mood for naked lunch two but this is kinda what it was. is that bad? fuck no i just wish i had known going into it that there wasn't much scifi. It was marketed like there was.

Keanu was good. Robert Downey jr. was fucking rad, Woody Harelson was great, and so was winona ryder. The overall story was definately a trip and i really like the fact that somebody is still making movies like this. they aren't cookie cutter, they have some balls, and the theater was PACKED. it could be because it was a 4 in the afternoon on a sunday and there is only one theater in town playing the movie. it is only playing on 217 screens around the country. It made over a million this weekend.

It feels like Waking Life was a test for this movie. They did a lot of crazy experimental things in waking life and they didn't hardley do anything in Scanner. The Scrambler Suits were rad i guess but the movie wouldn't have been nearly as cool in live action as it was with this roto-scoping technique. it gave it a very sureal feeling.

over all i really did like this movie it just wasn't what i was expecting.

Great Albums # 3

Dru Down: Explict Game

There was a time when Dre was the biggest act on the rap scene. He was it and everyone wanted to be him. Dru Down almost falls into this catergory. Mid-Ninteys, G-Funk, but he has his own delivery even if the topics aren't new, they are entertaining.

"pimp of the year" is a great song the big hit on this album, and maybe the best song on the album too.

"Ice Cream Man" This version is alot better than Master P's version even though P's predates his. common (joe)logic states that P's should be superior, in this case not true. Luniz lend alot to this track they make it a great song.

Next song is "rescue 911" which is about one of the luniz getting kidnapped. This song is put together rather cleverly by each verse is him calling dru and yuk telling them to help rescue him from his kidnappers. it is a great song with lines like "hurry up cuz they talkin bout gettin this bitch with aids to fuck me"

over all this album is fucking great. if you like 90's rap you will like this. next album is a big ? i'll figure it out though you can count on me.

i thought this was a joke

SHARK And JERICHO
Filed under: brainjuice — warrenellis @ 12:02 am

Through the magic of electric space message telegraphs, I have the pilot episodes of new American network tv series SHARK and JERICHO here.

SHARK (which comes in at a healthy 44 mins, something I’ll return to in a minute) is the first of the post-HOUSE shows. He’s old, he’s brilliant, he’s a thoroughgoing prick, he has a single person in the world who likes him and who he treats miserably. He’s a tired-looking James Woods, a defense attorney whose last successful defendant turns out to be a mad killer after all. James Woods’ friend the mayor offers him a way out of his personal meltdown by making him the head of a high-profile special prosecutorial team, against the wishes of the DA, who’s played by Sixty of Nine from STAR TREK: VOYAGER. Actually, that’s not fair: Jeri Ryan’s knowing, laconic performance isn’t bad. She just gives up verisimilitude to setting up James Woods’ lines. Which isn’t a bad choice, given that Woods has rarely met a bit of scenery he hasn’t wanted to chew the shit out of. There are three reasons we like to watch James Woods. One, he’s super-verbal, and seeing him work a good script is a joy. Two, he’s always a charming scumbag, so he’s fun to watch. And three, he always gets crushed, and gets that look like someone’s just slit open his chest and ripped out his heart, and we like that because he kind of deserves it. This being network tv, we get all three, but in the Lite flavour. He just looks tired, a lot of the time, and the writers refuse to take their guts in both hands and give us a real double-barrelled blast of James Woods inside what network tv will bear.

Only once does Woods really let it out of the box. He’s got a fake courtroom built under his home, where he hones and perfects his arguments. To illustrate a point, he puts one of his team of attractive young doctors lawyers into the witness box. He turns away from her, faces the camera, takes a deep breath — and suddenly his eyes go utterly dead. The barest glimpse of what it’s like to have an honest-to-god fucking actor on the stage.

SHARK’s going to be ordinary. It’s going to be HOUSE with lawyers, with a production team who seem not to have the bravery of HOUSE’s. If they find their balls, I bet you James Woods will wake up a little bit. If James Woods’ attention was fully engaged by words he could dance with, this would be a brilliant bit of entertainment.

JERICHO clocks in at 38 minutes. This is for an hour-long show. That’s a full six minutes shorter than SHARK. That’s six minutes more ads for you to sit through in order to glean something from this thin little show. The first two minutes are beautifully photographed. After that, sadly, people start to talk. Skeet Ulrich is impersonating Adam Sandler for no reason I can see, as a thirtysomething ex-army indigent returned home to screw his inheritance out of his dad’s clutches. Dad is George Hearst from DEADWOOD, so you know that’s going to go badly. And, frankly, after a minute or so of Skeet’s whining, I was hoping Dad would produce the pickaxe that took off Al Swearengen’s finger.

Everyone in Jericho, Kansas hugs each other. A lot. It’s because it’s a nice place full of nice, well-meaning American people. Skeet doesn’t get the cash, and pisses off out of it.

And then a mushroom cloud appears in the distance.

It appears that at least two nuclear devices have been detonated in the continental United States. The nearest knocks out power in Jericho, but with no hard flash, radiation or shockwave. All contact with the outside world is lost and everyone shits themselves. Except at the end George Hearst, who is the mayor, gives a little speech and everyone hugs again.

JERICHO is a post-LOST show: a microcosm of (American) humanity in a sealed geographic location. You could in fact call it LOST for Middle America, without any of those troubling Iraqis or Koreans to distract. It does seem at this early stage like it’s going to be a paean to the indestructibility of the common man and the small town. It could pretty easily turn into a survivalist anthem. One of the dodgier choices is that the sole black face I saw could well be an absconded prisoner whose transport crashed when the power went out.

It annoyed me that Pamela Reed, who’s just a terrific actor, had next to nothing to do. But what annoyed me more was that pretty much bugger all happened. There was very little meat, and very little virtuosity to distract me from that — I have no problem with lack of linear plot progression if you’ve actually got something to show or tell me. And that’s partly, I suspect, down to some idiot hacking the thing down to 38 minutes so an extra six minutes of ads could be sold.

SHARK might get two seasons if someone there works out what they’ve got. JERICHO doesn’t even raise the hope that PSYCH did — PSYCH being a show that really really bloody wants to be good but doesn’t know how. JERICHO is a show full of misused talent that commits the worst sin in storytelling — it’s just fucking boring.

jesus christ 38 minute long hour long show.

did you know that hour long shows in England are an hour long? imagine that.

i think that american idol is the worst about this (yeah i watched it once)it seems like there is about 15 minutes of show around 45 of comercials. euchk!

I will miss coach Crawford.

Fuck the NHL Schedule

So i have been thinking already about who i want to see the canucks play next year. And i had decided that one of the teams i wanted to see play was Washington, because i wanted to see Ovechkin. I also wanted to see them play Ottowa, Toronto (i knew this isn't going to happen unless i goto toronto) or Montreal. None of these three teams play in Vancouver this year and Washington plays once in October. However in this new nhl they play fucking Minisota 7 times. WTF. so i can't figure out when i am going to games this year.

Great Albums # 2

I first heard this album in about 1998. I knew this guy who a was really into punk. He was this girl i liked ex-boy friend but he kept hanging out in her social circle and eveyone knew he wasn't over her. so when i started coming around he was none to happy about it, because he knew there was something going on between us. Well the guy was a douche bag but his taste in music was great. This album is really good from start to finish.

Millencolin is a band from Örebro, Sweden. I fell in love with this band hard and i bought all thier import singles, I am a dork. Vinyl only 7"s all that shit, anyway this LP is their best. it fucking rocks. every song begining to end. Mr. Clean Fazils Friend, Take it or Leave it, they are all really good songs.

this is one of my all time favorite albums. Come back soon for great album # 3 its gonna be a rap album.

laters!

Entourage Season 1

This show is great. I am a sucker for "inside hollywood" stuff. The jokes and all that shit i love it. So not only does this show have all that but it's about four friends hanging out, basicly working for him. So in my mind, mikey got famous, i drive the car, rob cooks, and jeremy is his manager. It's fucking rad. a group of friends that grew up together and now they hang out together and the famous one buys them motorcycles and rad cars.

the show rules. season 2 is next along with the new Dr. Who.

Ken Dryden is running for PM

I wish i was registered to vote in Canada

warren ellis fucking rules part 1000

canucks update 2

fuck jarko ruutu signed with pitsburg. son of a bitch. He was the best instigator ever. and now he's playing against us. fuck. Good Bye and Good luck RUUTS!!!

Canucks News...

Everyone knows that Bertuzzi went to Florida for Roberto Luongo, and it made me sad to see him go but he had a couple bad seasons and the writing was on the wall, but at least he was under contract and we got something in return for him. (7 million a year for 4 years. (ouch)

So it's Bertuzzi, Auld (double Ouch i love auld) and brian allen for Luongo. and we signed him to a four year 28 million dollar contract.

Next we Lost Eddie Jovanovski to free angency.

so to shore up the defensive hole he made we got willie mitchell. who plays a different style of hockey but, it will be nice to not clench my teeth everytime one of our defensemen leaves his end. i think Mitchell and Ohlund will make a good pairing or him and Salo.

and now today we just got ride of my favorite goalie, Dan Cloutier who went to play for Coach Crawford over in LA.

here's the video that made me first like cloutier. This was back when he was on the Rangers.

Good luck Dan!

The Sedin Twins are resigned for three more years which fucking rules now if they can only sign anson Carter to play with them, they were the best line all year.

the Baumer also took his leave of vancouver which makes me sad too, i liked his style.

Jovocop signed a 5 year deal with phoenix, and JR signed a 1 year deal. They are going to be a good team me thinks.

I broke Vancouvierite Rule # 4 last night.

yes I, Joe Frazier went and watched the fireworks. Not at the fort though i haven't lost all sense of right and wrong, i watched them from marine drive, which is kinda like minority-fair. I don't have any pics to post though because when we got down there it was so dark that they didn't come out for shit. It was pretty cool really thanks to the kindness of one strange lady. (stranger). We parked down at the best buy and decided to walk till we got a good view of the fireworks. so we walked for about 1.75 hours (it was a looong way back to bestbuy. we were half way to i-5 maybe closer to i-5 than 205. ( a long walk for me, in sandals too no less)till the fireworks started and we watched them next to some stranger, who out of the kindness of her heart gave us a ride back to dana's car. which saved us about 2 hours of walking. all in all it was a great time. i have a hard time depending on the kindess of strangers but dana doesn't.

Bad Religion - Stranger Than Fiction

Man I haven't listened to this in a long time and i cant figure out why. This album is fan-fuckin-tastic. It's great, i will listen to it more now. Every song is rad, and since i listened to this almost non-stop since Mark made a tape of it for me till about 1999. i know all the words. Great album.

maybe ill start a joe's great album column here on the SLBOF... hmmm. i like the sound of that.

tune in next week for another great album probably by Millencolin.

warren ellis rules

The little girl sat crying on the park bench, clutching a pink backpack with an envelope sticking out of it. I sat next to her, phone in my hand. “Are you lost?"

"No. My mummy and daddy died and I have to live with Grandma who hates me so I'm running away."

"Oh, honey," I said. "I'm so sorry about your parents."

"Grandma makes me do horrible things and when I complain she makes me read the note mummy and daddy left me before they died."

She gave me the envelope. The note inside read:

"You made us do this."

third of july

jeremy and i watched oragazmo because he'd never seen it, then we watched running man, because when is it ever a bad idea to watch an arnold movie? (did you see that media i spelled mr. S's name arnold, not ahnold like you stupid pig fuckers do, it's retarded we know who you are talking about and it's not funny. enhough with it already)

you all know the plot to both of these movies so let's talk about who would play who in orgazmo and running man if "the fellas" were the stars.

First Jeremy would play this guy

ryan the next guy

Garret would play pentuple roles as these guys

i would play this guy

this is what we talked about during the movie.

Spiderman

So i decided to take it easy today, and all i want to do is relax, and watch some movies. I wanted watch an action movie and i don't think i have watched this since it was in the theater, i know i wouldn't have bought it but izzy bought it for me for my birthday. So as i'm watching it i realize that kirsten dunst looks like a crack whore. look at the pic dude she's strung out. anyway this movie is good and i like it alot more than superman returns. The only way you should watch superman returns is on the IMAX, trust me for the opening credits alone you will thank me.

The wrestling scene MachoMan Randy Savage is one of my favorite scenes in this movie.
macho man + bruce cambell = awesome.

4 out 5 radioactive spiders

Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang

THis movie is rad. see it, run don't walk. this movie rules. it's funny, well acted i can't believe it didn't do better.

superman returns

i really liked this movie, jeremy didn't. I thought the movie looked amazing but the story had more holes than a block of swiss cheese. Kevin Spacey is good as LL and parker Posey was good as his mole. So here's my biggest problem with it really. They seemed to need to make this feel like the first two, i dunno, its kinda cool but it get's old. Let's just say it this way the only way i would watch this is on the IMAX.

i hope the next one is good, but i doubt it.
