A quote for mark, (sorta)

from vcoe, now at kuklas korner

“Surfing is the hardest sport I have ever taken up. I think the challenge, along with the serenity it offers, makes it such an amazing sport, and way of life, for that matter.... [] And it is a pretty hard feeling to beat when you catch a great wave.”

Calgary Flames defenseman Andrew Ference has a passion for surfing. (Right on, Spicoli! Btw, it’s worth clicking that link—an interesting article about Ference and things going on in his life.)

Miami Vice (2006) aka this aint the croket and tubbs, that i know

just when you think the remake bandwagon had gone crazy with Battle star galactica.

Holy fuck this is a shitty movie, i'm sorry to the couple people that read this that i haven't been very good about upkeeping it, i got a girl friend and that pretty much takes up my free time.

anyway this movie is a turd and pretty much cements jamie foxx as one of the worst fucking actors ever.

and what is up with old genesis/phil collins songs getting covered by mediocore rock bands?

first the song in this movie coming in the air tonight, not my favorite song in its original form but this numetal remake is fucking terrible, the other one the land of confusion is okay, but not that great.

300 Spartans

I watched this movie tonight, Ron said he liked it and a remake is coming out soon called 300 anyway, this movie is old and because of that the pacing is alittle slow. But it is still pretty good and i enjoyed the movie.

Damn i watched alot of movies last night

Equilibrium

damn this movie is good, i was talking to my friend in payroll about how bad ass this movie is, so i was inspired to rewatch it, and it's just as good over and over again, a big shout out goes to Randy for telling me about this movie.

Lock, Stock and two smoking Barrels

This movie is good, and i was sick of it for a while and rewatching it for the first time in a good couple years was fun. i got the characters more, understood more of the slang, and like the filmmaking in general more. i could notice alot more the low budget stuff that they did and it didn't detract from the movie, i liked it more because it made it seem more gritty. great movie highly recomended.

Dead or Alive

This movie is fucked. not straight forward gross like the fly last week, this movie is FUCKED IN THE HEAD. its hard to watch and when you do like part of it, the movie changes gears. it is very choppy to the point where you never really know what the hell is going on. it is a cry back to "Tokyo drifter" and it's quite a good movie. but again it's not for everyone, infact most people would have a very hard time watching it, i know i always do. but thats part of the fun.

ill update this with pics later.

brett Ratner is a tool.

MTV: You got onboard late in the development process. What input did you have into the script? Did you say, "I want more of this character," or, "I want a scene in this location"?

Ratner: I did not change the plot of the film. ... Two of my other movies, I came into the project [while it was already in development]. Directors are, in my opinion, the auteurs of the movie. Not that writers aren't important, but that's why it's a Brett Ratner film and not a Zak Penn or a Simon Kinberg film. That's why it's a Bryan Singer film. I'm the most collaborative person with the writers. I actually had Simon and Zak there the whole time I was making the movie. They're the biggest "X-Men" fans in the world, so, you know, I'm not taking anything away from them. But what I'm saying is the script is not the movie. The movie's the movie. Where I put the camera, how I block the scene, the tone of the scene -- but I did stay very true not only to the first two movies but to the comic books.

what a fucking jack ass. so you're saying that you put the camera where you want to, not the DP? and that you block the scene not the DP? brett ratner is a douche bag, for down playing the importance of the people that wrote the fucking script. The script is the foundation fora a movie and if you have a shitty one nothing can help it. period. come fucking on. a good script and a bad director can make a great movie, look at true romance, has tony scott done anything that rad since, nope, and what is good about that movie anydamn way, the script from tarintino. so what fucking ever ratner suck a horse cock, maybe that will shut you up.

Killers - Sam's Town

To inagurate my new toy i downloaded the new killers album. Damn it's good. and damn is the ipod cool. i fucking love it. it downloads album cover art and puts it right on the ipod, and well i've wanted one for a really long time. so good for me.

The killers album really builds on what they did last time and take it to another level, yet they still have a familar sound. you can tell it's the killers.

Cutthroat Island

This movie is a legendary hollywood flop. and from the first second i didn't like it either.

this movie was compelete trash and a waste of your time. don't ever watch it. geena davis and Reny Harlin the director had to have been so fully of themselves that they couldn't tell what a turd this is. give me a break.

.5 of a taco sauce packet for the badguy's ship. it was rad.

Science of Sleep

I really like michel gondry. So his new movie coming out is super rad. i had been looking forward to this for a while now. I was not disappointed. It is thoughly cool, and i enjoyed the fact that alot of mr. gondry was in this movie. The story is basicly a guy that likes his new neighbor. but it is soo much more. they guy has problems gettign dreams and reality confused. The visual style is sooo cool, i loved it.

i want to touch your hair.

The town of corvalley really is white. Yuck. I can't fucking wait to get out of town tonight.

Monday, September 25, 2006

Not only does corvallis suck so does tv

holy fuck tv sucks. i have been lulled into a false sense of television by the shows that i end up watching on dvd. no wonder shows are hits when the utter crap is on tv. i watched this one turd called two and a half men. the only part that was even slightly funny was the fat kid that reminded me of myself. so it wasn't that funny.

The next turd on the agenda was an unfunny romp in medicrity with the lovely title of " the new adventures of old christine" so titled because her husband dumped her for another woman named christine. nicknamed "new" christine. hence juilia louise dryfuss is "old" christine. the reason that i kept watching was the my ol' pal scott backula was on but he had horrible douche bag hair.

blech, i'm going to go to bed now and have another really shitty day at work then go home. ahhh home sweet home. i can almost see my dvd's from here. man i'm a dork.

oh the one good thing about this shit hole town is that hey have a really good book store and i got some good books. a couple michael moorcock books i'd lost (gotten stolen) a couple spenser books i didn't have, and ill met at lankahmar.

Spending three days in another town usually sounds like fun to me. However when the work sucks and the town sucks more what are you supposed to. I can't just sink into my work and I can't go home (fortress of solitude) after work and just chill out. So I am stuck with going for walks with headphones and making retarded blog posts.

The protector (Tom yum goong)

Second in my Lloyd Center double feature tonight was the protector. The new Tony Jaa movie. It was exactly what i expected. fucking awesome fight scenes and a rediculous plot. Some one stole his elephants, not one but two, and took them to austrelia. So not speaking a lick of english he goes there to find them. and fights ensue, lots of them. mand mr. Jaa certianly does kick fucking ass. He fights this guy that looks like a 7 foot tall stone cold steve austin. the guy is a monster, and the fight is fucking amazing. no cuts at all for like 4 minutes. out of control. what i like about tony jaa movies (ive seen two now) is that they are alot like bruce lee movies. He respects his culture and brings alot of the flavor to the screen. The good news is that it's not nearly as boring as when bruce lee did it. you had to sit thru a lot of bruce lee crap to get to the good stuff. but when it got to the good stuff it was good. now a days people wouldn't really stand for that i don't think.

oh and did i mention that at one point a elephant get body slammed through a window. that's awesome! awesomely terrible.

over all this movie was great if you like martial arts movies if you don't, don't waste your time.

4 out 5 muay thai elbow knee combos!

Hollywoodland

I enjoy dective stories. the more hard boiled the better. So when i saw trailers for this movie i was interested. I was not disapointed. it was quite good. Adrian Brody was really good, which was nice, he was really good in the pianist as well. So when i looked up stuff on IMDB about the people that made this movie it's pretty impressive, the writer hadn't ever really written anything i had ever heard of except for some episodes of 21 jump street, and the director had only directed some episodes of the Sopranos. an episode of the x-files called all souls? Mark you remember that one? i don't. it was in 1998 so i don't know if that was after the show got crappy or not. bob hoskins was rad too as usual. if you are looking for a hard boiled detective story, with a surprisingly upbeat ending, that takes place in fifties hollywood check it out. its pretty good.

capcom's a bunch o bitches

This is from wired's blog about games

"No Solution Forthcoming Re: Dead Rising in SD
Topic: Game|Death

Game publisher Capcom indicated this morning that there is no solution forthcoming to the issues that cause their latest hit game, Dead Rising for Xbox 360, to be nearly unplayable on standard definition TV sets.

A representative of the publisher told 1up.com that a patch "is not possible" due to the scope of the problem, which causes the in-game text messages to be unreadably small on non-HD displays.

The statement comes right on the heels of the company's announcement that it will double its advertising budget for Dead Rising, pumping an additional $3 million into television ad buys.

The game, a campy zombie-killing adventure set in a shopping mall, became a surprise hit for the company when it was released last month, shipping over half a million copies in its first two weeks.

But players without high-definition television sets got a nasty surprise when they popped in the disc. They couldn't read the crucial messages that the game sent out telling them where to go and what to do next.

Without them, they were set adrift in the shopping mall, helpless against the advances of hordes of zombies.

As complaints piled up, Capcom offered users some suggestions, but none were especially helpful. Today, after weeks of silence, the company divulged to 1up.com that although they had looked into creating a downloadable patch that would remedy the problem, "the amount of text and the size of the patch necessary to change the text" made it impossible to solve the problem.

Given that Capcom is a company that has never, historically, shied away from releasing "Director's Cut" editions of its games, it's likely that such a solution might be the only thing gamers without $1000 displays can hope for.

I'm still wondering how in the hell this got through Microsoft's quality control measures."

thats whack!

Cowboy Bebop: Knockin on Heavens Door

I haven't been watching much anime lately. it had started to bore me. but this for somereason called out to me last night. i hadn't watched any bebop in along time. Man is this a great movie. i had almost forgotten how good. anyway if you haven't seen it or the tv show, it's a bout a group of bounty hunters. it is damn good.

Full Metal Jacket

I was trying to find a movie to watch last night and i came up to vision Quest, and was realizing because of matthew modine (what happened to him anyway?) that i hadn't watched full metal jacket for years. I used to love it when i was in high school. But i watched it with a fresh pair of eyes and it's not a funny movie anymore. holy shit, i can't believe i was ever so young. This movie is full of sorrow, pain, huliliation, and regret. i totally missed the whole point of the movie when i was younger, i was too busy laughing at the drill sgt. who really is not the main character in hind sight. The book and it's sequel made me think a little. especially the sequel which if you have never read it and you liked the movie you owe it to yourself to find it. it's hard to find but worth it. it's called "the phantom blooper" by gustav hasford who also wrote the book the first one is based on called "the short timers". anyway this movie is good, really fucking good but really depressing.

FUCK YOU GAP!

This really pisses me off. WTF. Fuck you corporate america. Leave what little class our country has alone.

new things, old things

Since i am on vacation and drank about three pots of strong green tea, i decided it was about time for me to upgrade to the new version of blogger. i don't quite know if i like it or not yet, i had tweaked my old blog to exactly the way i liked it, and im not quite sure this new stuff is all that much better, but it sure was a bitch to get everything set back up the way i liked it. it should look about the same, just with some new colors and arangements on the side bar.

also i was playing with the site meter and i saw that people from all over the world visit my site. how cool. thanks, and to the person that works for a company that protects brand names, i hope you were browsing not investigating me.

that's about it from me today i'm gonna crash out from too much delicious caffene sp?

i got a new sweet tea pot, that is basicly a 2 qt sauce pan with a spout, and a colander(sp?) on top, so you put your water on to boil, through the colander in throw your loose tea and a viola you have a HUGE pot of tea, so i drank about one and then made a bunch of iced tea that i continued to drink all through the day. hurrah, ill post some pics of if cuz im a dork, soon.

Fisher King

I have been wanting to see this movie for a long time. i like jeff bridges and i really like terry gilliam. i had just put it off because it wasn't very flashy. it was good though. i wouldn't own it other than to be a completeionist. it's the story about a radio dj who jokingly says to go ahead and kill people to a listener then the listener does and he's blamed for it. he spirals downhill and meets a homeless man who was driven insane by his wife dieing (guess who killed her?) etc. its good.

North Dallas Forty

Ron and Fez the other day were talking about sports movies and Ron said this was his favorite of all time, and having never heard of it i rented it. it's pretty damn good. there is hardley any sports at all in it, its more about what goes on around the field than actually on the field. nick nolte was probably as good as i have ever seen him, i should check out what other movies he was in before this, because he's good in this.

over all this was a good sports movie, with a more or less realistic ending. pretty impressive for the 70's.

Crank

This movie has a stupid plot. but who goes to see an action movie for the plot, character development, or for that matter common sense. Statham fucking rules in this movie as he should. It's all action and fucking with no stopping for breath, because if he stops, he dies. that simple. barskey fucking hated it, i fucking thought it was rad. the stylistic violence he didn't like, i did. i like trick camera work, and jump cuts, and all that shit he hated it. whatever, the ending was kinda funny, but kinda lame too, i guess he won but at what price... same as it ever was.

anyway, it's ok, but i'd be alittle embarresed to actualy recomend seeing it. if you think you might like it see, it if you think you might not like it you probably wont.

2 out 5 epifederone shots

beerfest

It's no secret that i love Broken Lizard. They are seriously some the funniest people makeing movies today. The only people funnier are Simon Pegg and comapany. Super Troopers is one of my alltime favorite comdies. So when i heard they were making a movie about secret beer drinking games, my heart went pitter patter. This is a goddamn funny movie. i can't wait to get it on DVD and watch it over and over again.

The plot is of course pretty straight forward, but it's not about the plot its about how you get there.

like super troopers was "the police station is closing and they have to save it"

this is "they got humiliated by their german cousins and have to regain their honor"

so they recruit the all time best beerdrinkers and create their own team for beerfest.

the crowd laughing when they asked where the american team was at the beggining was hillarious.

So where all the stereotypes. ahhh good times. This movie is great! good job guys. i'll be telling everyone i know to see this movie!

4.5 out 5 kegs.

fuck yeah

Brick

I heard a little buzz about this movie, so i wanted to check it out, word was that it was a noir thriller but set in high school. This i thought was a very intreguing idea. The acting was great and the noir cliches mixed with the high school cliches was a very cool idea. i really like noir movies, and good old 80's movies too, so that was a lot of fun. I highly recommend this movie.

4.6 out 5 tugs. (eww not like that...)

Camping

Wow, i was really gone for a week and it was rad. I went camping at forlorn lakes in the Gifford Pinchot national forest with my friend Dana for a week. It was very relaxing and a lot of fun. no water, no electricy, no internet, no cellular, no nothing just me, my buddy, some books, and nature. It was a grand time.

I'm going camping

I am going camping tommorow afternoon, here for a week. so there might not be any updates for a while but there will be pictures and stuff when i get back.

Being There

After watching that movie about peter sellers i wanted to see this movie again. i had watched it once in jr high. eighth or ninth grade, I can't really remember. Anyway it didn't really make that big of an impression on me then but it should have. After seeing how much this movie meant to peter sellers, i wanted to rewatch it. and over all this is a good movie. It's basicly what forest gump ripped off. A simple kind person is mistaken for someone who knows what thier doing, and kinda bumbles around making good, in a not very silly way but in a heartfelt kind of way. peter sellers is very good in this movie.

4 out 5 televisions.

Warren Ellis on a rampage is a sight to behold

it started out like this...

Is it interesting to anyone else that
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA is now the
only "spaceship show" on the air in
English? (DOCTOR WHO doesn't
count - ship shows have their own
set of tropes, and WHO doesn't fit.)
Almost makes me want to have a
go at another space opera/ship
comic again, see if I can get it right
this time...

then came this response...

Also known as "Warren Ellis' Conversations With The
Living Web," or something equally polite, respectful
and Joi Ito-esque:

The STARGATE shows are not ship shows. You
can tell by, you know, the lack of a fucking spaceship.
Sure, they have them NOW. But the clue remains
in the fucking title.

(That said, those things are the very model of how
to devise a long-running tv show. It's an open-ended
concept. As opposed to, say, LIFE ON MARS --
which ends the second the protagonist gets
cured.)

(Although I don't think anyone expected every
planet in the known universe to look like Vancouver.
But what the fuck.)

If the show concept is All About Flying Around In
A Fucking Spaceship, it's a ship show. If it's
not, then it ain't. Just because something has
four legs, don't mean it's a dog. Luckily, you
have me here to correct your thinking and elevate
you from the evolutionary shitpit you currently
wallow in.

Thank God for me.

this man is a fucking genius.

Dead and Breakfast

Jeremy and i were drunk last night after clara's graduation party, we stoped at KFC for a "Classic Bowl" holy fuck that is ungodly bad for you but oooooh so tasty. So when we got back to my house we were looking for a movie to watch and came up with this. The premise is this group of kids get stuck in this shit hole town and have to stay in this bed and breakfast, when one of the kids knocks over this box and it steals his soul, and he turns into a zombie. then when ever he puts a piece of some one in the box they become a zombie too. hillarity and gore insue. it's rad, if you like cheesy gorey movies, check it out.

Judas Priest fucking rules

So i was downtown yesterday picking up a graduation present for a friend of mine and i was near 2nd ave. records and who can resist going in there with a little change in thier pocket? so i was perusing the metal cd's and i decided it was time to pick up Sad Wings of Destiny. i had a cassete copy of this a while ago, but i never really gave it much of a listen to because i didn't have a cassete player in a convienant spot. but fucking A this album RULES! check it out if you like metal, you wont be disapointed.

Great Article on NHL.com

There is a great article debating the likeliness of any team 5-peating a stanley cup championship.

The life and death of peter sellers

I had heard good stuff about this movie so i decided to check it out. I thought it was ok. it wasn't great, but it was entertaining. I like geoffry rush, and i have always like peter sellers, even though i heard he was a jerk. I wanted to see more of him and stanely kubrick, but there wasn't that much of them, alot of blake edwards but since i have never seen any of the pink panther movies, it didn't really matter to me,( it's on my que for netflix).

over all it was ok, but i'm glad i didn't buy it.
