assault on precinct 13 (2004?)

when i first saw the comercials for this i thought it was a sequel to training day. but then i found out that it was a remake. then i found out it was a remake to john carpenters second movie. then i went out and found a copy of the original and i fell asleep everytime i tried to watch it. it has a snake plisken prototype in it which is interesting, but this review is about the new one,

it has none of the pacing or suspense that make the first one so cool, its just hurry hurry hurry, and i think that is one of the reasons that the old one is so hard for me to watch is that its filmed on an older cinema language. for a different audience in a different time. the new one is easy to watch too easy and fairly predictable. i liked laurence fishburne in a kinda morpheus meets frank black role. he was cool and collected and a BMF. whats not to like. leguizamo was good in his character of an annoying crack head that screams "im annonoying and will sell you out at the first possible opportunity. over all it was enjoyable but not a good as carpenters. i would like to see if the director has any other movies and i'd like to check them out.
