Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy
I watched this last night and enjoyed it. I had forgotten who good it is. it isn't super close to the source material. but as douglas adams wrote most of the changes i don't really mind. the story is clever and funny and i really like the entries from the guide, they were well done. I thought Mos Def was fantastic as Ford Prefect and Tim from the office was rad as arthur.

syriana
This movie was not entertaining to me. Period. I saw traffic and liked it enough to dig up Traffik, which i like much more. I saw Munich. I don't think i needed to watch this movie. The other movie Mr. Clooney did last year was FAR superior to this one. One wonders if he made this one just to make "Goodnight" look better.
The script was all over the place and it seemed like who ever was editing was cutting stuff out that he felt didn't need to be told because he knew it, but not everyone does. Maybe a little exposition would be good if you're going to tell a global political thriller. I don't mind movies that hit the ground running and don't take shit from no one, but this movie was slow moving and character driven, but they never explained why poeple where doing what they are doing, or how they are in the situation that htey are in. it got a little frustrating, and hard to follow after a while.

Chronicles of Riddick : Dark Rage
so i might be the only one to see this but the movies Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick were rad. There hadn't ben any sci fi movies that are unforgivingly don't explain the surroundings or really the back story, they're just fun and space operay (did i just make that up?) anyway I was at best buy today with Will because he needed to get some more blank DVD's and as i was strolling down the aisles looking for something to get i found the "chronicles of riddick collection" which i have none of for 14.99 so i decided to pick it up. it comes with the two movies and the animated one, which is suprisingly good. it was worth the five dollars i paid for it for sure. the guy who did the animation is the same guy who did aeon flux cartoon, so it's pretty cool. The price is right and the movies are actually pretty fucking good.

the new Dr. Who
man i am dork and nothing proves it more than the fact that i love dr. who. This fact alone doesn't make me a dork, just that i know that Tom Baker isn't the best one just the most famous. that's what makes me a dork. The new guy who is new this year, looks like he could have been in kasabian, which is kinda funny to me because he acts like it too. but i still think this years series is freaking great. maybe i'm just jaded because i have missed the doctor. but the three episodes i have watched have been freaking great. good job BBC! i wish you were on over in the states. that would be great. abc, cbs, nbc, fox and the beeb. but no such luck.
it doesn't hurt that the girl is really cute too.

Way of the Gun
I first saw this movie in a Becky double feature with Boondock Saints. It was a good time for me. Good movies were coming my way and i didn't have to work to find them they were just handed to me. it was nice. It dried up of course but these two movies blew my mind. i had never heard of them, nor anyone related to them they just kinda came out of indie no where, and where really good at the time. Both of the movies have kinda mellowed with age (5 years) but some of the writing is still really good in way of the gun and the acting between ryan and bencio is great. now the stuff with jimmy cahn is alright and the action holds up ok, because it's clever and doesn't try to out over do itself. the set design really is what bothers me. we have good acting, good script, decent directing and cinimatography, but it looks like a high school production and lighting. blech. but i am whining alittle bit too loudly.
over all this is an enjoyable movie and if you haven't seen it as often as i have the production probably wont bother you that much.

oh hollywood video you are my friend
So i was in vancouver last night to have dinner with Ryan and before i left i need to gas up, and my habitual gas station in vancouver is next door to my old habitual hollywood video, and on the sign outside they were advertising 5 for 20 dvds. well the old collector in me thought this was too good to pass up so i went in for a check out, and low and behold they are getting rid of all their vhs movies ALL of them 5 for 15$. so i immediately went over to the foriegn section and picked out 5 great foriegn movies.
1. Andre Rubelev
2. Masculine Feminine stars jean pierre lauded directed by goddard. (wanted to see this forever.)
3. Thru the glass, Darkly
4. Wild Strawberries
5. uh.. i dont remember.
so next time i'm in the 'couv i'm gonna hit up the hazel dell one and get some more good old movies. ohhh yeah.
sudden impact
holy shit this movie sucks. how did anyone enjoy this turd? it is sooo contrived, crappy and you can see the outcome a mile away. it's hard for me to imagine this being popular ever.

Shaun of the Dead
District B13
I hadn't seen any trailers for it, i hadn't ever really heard of it before i just looked up fandango to see what movies are just coming out, and this movie looked like the least worst. So i took a chance and boy was i happy i did. This movie is from the producer of ong-bak, and it shows. the fighting was fucking awesome, realistic and brutal. and the stunts were just fucking fantastic. The two main characters were new to me and they fucking ruled. neither of them had been in many movies only bit parts in smaller movies, the rawness and newness came thru on the screen. Hollywood wishes it could make something this cool. but they can't. If you like action movies go see this right fucking now.
