New Avengers

At fisrt i didn't much like the idea of the "new avengers".

"young avengers" is fine it's like teen titans or new mutants. whatever it'll either be good and given to a young up and coming writer or it'll be shit.

However i read the first issue of new avengers and i really liked it. The writing was good (Bendis), of course. Sentry taking carnage to outerspace and just ripping him in half was pretty damn cool.

the fact that they added spider-man and wolverine could be really be shitty but it makes sense (for a comic book).

over all i really like it.

WCFYA

so apperently this stands for we've come for you all. which is kinda gaaay. oh well its still anthrax and they still are the best damn band in the land. maybe.

aaahh that's what i was missing.

Recently i have been regaining my love of music. It makes things much more enjoyable. I think that my enjoyment of it got kinda beaten out of me at kennedy school becasuse if i didn't enjoy it the fact that we couldn't listen to it there wouldnt bother me as much. But now i listen to music all day long at work and it's fucking great. I get more done, i'm not bothered by the old men's lecherousness, and i get to listen to some great fucking music. i love metal again. Demon Hunter is great, a new anthrax song just came on called wcfya? does this mean they have a new album out? i'm gonna check it out now.

Operation: Mindcrime II part 2

So after listening to this the one thing that i can complain about is that there isn't much story. Now this is only one listen, so maybe ill start to pick up the story after i've listened to it more, but i got the general story the first time i listened to mindcrime1. hmmm maybe the booklet has some stuff too, i'll probably pick it up at best buy tongiht.

Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime II

yesterday was new comic wednesday. Sometimes i enjoy just coming home putting on some music and reading my new comics, today was one of those days so i stopped by the cd-game exchange(my favorite used cd store, and until about a month ago i didn't know that there was one about 2 minutes from my house) i decided to get a pizza (papa murphys next door to game exchange) and a cd and read my new comics. So as i was browsing the gigantic 5.00 cd section i saw that operation mindcrime 2 is out, but i didn't want to pay full price for it before i listened to it. So i kept looking around and got the new Demon Hunter CD which if you haven't heard of these guys they are pretty kick ass and on this album there is even a cover of

wait for it

Snap you fingers snap your neck, oh hell yeah.

but as soon as i got home last night i went and Dl'd mindcrime 2 and i am listening to it now at work, i haven't made up my mind yet, most of the reviews i read of it said it was thier heaviest album since Rage for Order and Warning? this i had to hear, i wish i hadn't read the reviews because i was expecting something that isn't there yet, but it does have the feel of Mindcrime 1 so that's good anyway.

That Demon Hunter CD is pretty good, i wish i had brought that with me to work today too, but i forgot it.

oh i also dl'd the new NOFX album which i am looking forward to checking out.

So i saw a preview for the new remake of this and decided to check out the japanese version of it. LET ME JUST SAY THIS... THIS IS MY LAST FUCKING JAPANESE HORROR MOVIE. I NEVER FUCKING LIKE THEM. THEY HAVE SOOOOO MUCH HYPE AND THEY ARE ALWAYS A LET DOWN rant over.

Some one dies they get stuck in a computer and then some shit hits the fan and people start dieing. but only every 35 minutes the rest of the time they run around and whine about being scared.

blah blah blah

Harry Potter and the chamber of Secrets

I watched this movie when it came out in the theater but that was it. I liked it ok then, but now its a little below ok. I guess after seeing the rest of them the exposition in the beginning is boring. I like the main story though and think that the SFX are still great but other than that i like the newer ones better. and he only has the sword for like the last 5 minutes and he barely uses it. what a let down.

over all though i did enjoy the movie even though it would be a little to scary for most kids with the giant spider scene.

Silent Hill

This movie was pretty good. I enjoy horror movies and this one was a well made one. I haven't played any of the games this is based off of, however i was told that they are remarkably similar. I always found the games to be boring, you walk around with a damn flashlight all the time, booring, i could do that at home, however this movie was scary and cool, and i liked it quite a bit.

Tango and Cash

This movie went from fun to what the fuck to holy shit you've got to be kidding me. That's not nessisarilly a bad thing but it's not great either. This movie could have been great, it's a good idea but another rewrite on the script and it would have been much better. Buddy cop movies don't get much better/worse than this one. it's so over the top you' think that there would be some arm wrestling for it.

Get Carter (1971)

This movie is quite good. As you may or may not know i really like british gangster movies. and this one is quite good, it's fun to see england in the 70's mike caine is fantastic, and the plot is good too. This version is way better than the stallone version, even though that one is good.

We've often found ourselves wishing that someone would finally drag Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria into the Nevada desert and secure her to the arid terrain with airline cable and stakes, but it was a decidedly less worshipful proposition than the stunt that Maxim magazine has staged to celebrate its 100th issue. They've installed a 110-foot-long version of their milestone cover outside of Las Vegas (above is a screenshot from a Google Earth link the magazine provides on their website; that little white thing at the bottom is a truck, if you need sense of terrifying scale), perhaps the largest monument to a B-list TV actress ever constructed. Expect an immediate response by castmate/famewhore rival Teri Hatcher, who has her publicist researching the feasibility of swaddling the Good Year blimp in her "I Was Molested!" Vanity Fair cover, which they would like to hire to circle the airspace above the Housewives set through their entire third season.

If you care about such things, and we know you do, some fun, press release facts about the Maxim cover follows after the jump.

Scanners

After i finished my john carpenter collection i needed a new excuse to waste money, so i decided to start collecting david cronenburg movies. this was one of the first i got but i had never watched it all the way. it's pretty damn good the sfx are alittle dated but still cool, the story is the best part the evil scanner trying to take over the world by creating more scanners. what is a scanner you ask? well you're just going to have to watch it to find out...

Ultimate Avengers: The movie

This movie was pretty crappy, it was supposed to be the ultimates cartoon. i was not empressed, the animation was pretty crappy for a "full length" movie, i mean come on, and it could quite decide wether it was for kids or for grownups.

Boccaccio '70

Lisa told me about this movie a couple weeks ago and she said she thought that i would like it so i rented disc one from netflix and i liked it quite a bit. the first one was about a couple who had to hide their marriage because of the girls contract at work said she couldn't be married, so she has to deal with a leacherous boss and living at home and all sorts of situations. it was lighthearted and entertaining. The second part of the movie was about a dr. that hated smut. he went around tearing it down in all forms covering up exposed cleavage, stoping at parks to stop people from making out it was kinda wierd, then one day a billboard goes up across the street of some super hot chick and he gets super pissed off and has it covered up, then he starts hallucenating and goes crazy.

A Face in the crowd

I don't remember why i chose this movie but i'm glad i did. It is quite good and for its time probably revolutionary. This girl decideds that she is going to do a show on the radio about an everyday guy. A, you got it "face in the crowd". So she goes the local jail and finds a guy with a lot of spirit and charisma and kind kinda sing in an oh brother kinda way. So he ends up getting his own radio show in bum fuck arkansaw and from there he skyrockets to the top with the help of his friends until of course he gets a huge head forgets his friends all helped him get wehre he got, and ruins it all like the ass that he is.

What is so cool about this movie is that it is so old, and the acting is so fresh from andy griffith. he is great! and he is what makes the movie so damned good.

so after watching fucking kickboxer i wanted to see a good muey thai movie.  cuz the fighting in kick boxer was shite.  This movie however for those of you reading this that havent seen this is fucking killer.  the fighting is rad and the stunts are better than anything jackie chan has done this decade and maybe ever other than drunken master 1 and 2.  the story is kinda dumb and thai is an incredible irratiing language to listen too but other than that this movie is fucking killer.  i can't wait to see what else tony jaa does.

summer school.

This movie is kinda silly but so are most 80's movies.  Mark Harmon is rad as the dumb ass teacher and kiristie alley is dumb as the love interst and the slutty girl from melrose place is a slut big suprise.  over all it's pretty sweet.  the guy gets the girl the turd gets what's coming to him and all the kids learn something.  oh and the really unrealistic fact that there are chicks in a male-strip club, instead of a bunch of mustache men.

oh and mark harmon drives a convertable falcon.  kick ass.

musings on a robot dressed as a man being ordered around by a little kid

first of all let me say i have seen this movie many times.  maaaany times, and every time i watch it i become a little more smitten with it.

This movie is the pinnacle of it's genre.  i havn't seen a movie this perfect ever.  When i was a kid i thought the action was cool and all that fine.  There are movies that have more action in it, sure.  there are movies with better acting, absolutely, but there are few movies whos scope, story, and style are as awesome as this.  All of James Cameron's work and determination are apparent in ever scene.

They are rehearsed and well thought out, as is the editing.  The finished product is a masterpiece of action.  That no movie has ever topped and i doubt any ever will.  seriously.  This movie is incredible from beginig to end.  The special editon is even better, it's not as taught as the theaterical because of the extra scenes, which i like, but i understand why they were cut, with them out the theatrical version is a fast paced adventure that never slows down, every scene is there for a reason, there isn't really any contrived exposition in any of it.

It isn't really a suprise that cameron didn't have anything to do with T3  because how the fuck would he top this movie?  part of me wishes he had tried but the other half is happy to watch t2 and make fun of the crappiness of t3.

from futuristic laser begining to molten metal end this movie is fan-fucking-tastic.

The special effects in this movie hold a specail palce for me too.  It is before directors relied  upon CGI, while all the SFX guys were still used to doing things the hard way and all that hard work pays off in spades on the screen.  There is cgi but it is blended in with the optical effects and it looks amazing.  the truck flying off the over pass, the motorcycle into the helicopter, the tanker truck into the steel factory, all fucking amazing.  plus the makeup effects for the t100 and t1000 plus the newly developed cgi effects, all working in conjunction to make an amazing sfx spectitcle.

All the actors and actresses involved with this are good.  They got all the bit actors from the first one. Especially in the SE where bien reprises his role as kyle reese. (which rules btw)  You could tell that they were all happy to be there and work on such a kick ass movie.

so in conclusion this movie is rediculously aweome.

Hot Shots and Hot Shot:part Duex

these movies are dumb but damn are they funny. just what i want for a sunday afternoon movie. booyah!

what about bob?

I thought i liked bill murray, and when poeple talk about him they always bring up this movie, which i never saw. I purposely stayed away from it because i didn't think the premise was funny. however at 8 in the morning on sunday there isn't much to watch on tv. So i decided it's time to watch it. It was not funny. it was irritating to watch one guy annoy another guy. did it do it's job? yes, did i enjoy watching it no. some people think this kind of humor is funny i do not. i don't really like to watch someone squirm and be uncomfortable, it hits alittle to close to home, and frankly i don't like it.

kickboxer

wow, basicly this guys brother is really cocky and get hurt in a fight over in thai land, then his brother learns muay thai and kicks the guys ass. this however does not fix his brothers paralization. The best part of this movie is of course the training scenes and the teacher is the best actor in the whole movie. over all this movie is a huge turd but really fun to watch.

Sudden Death

So I get off work today and go to jeremys house and we watched two JCVD movies. Also known as Jean Claude Van Damme. Wow, this one has hockey. So immediately i liked it in theory. The penguins vs the blackhawks in the stanely cup seems a little far fetched though. JCVD is a fireman that quits because a girl dies in his arms in a fire, then he's a firemarshall for the pittsburg civic ice arena. It is game seven of the stanely cup playoffs and some dudes kidnap the vice president and hold him hostage for a bunch of money, luckily JCVD can play goalie and does for the penguins for a bout 1 minute stops a breakaway and gets into a fightwith "chris chelios" then saves the day but not before a helicopter flies into the building and crashes on the ice. oh and did i forget to tell you about the zamboni bomb? oh yeah

ha ha harvard

sorry about no updates lately i've been busy and haven't watched many movies or anything...

Mark Frauenfelder: Dr. Yaron Brock of the Ayn Rand Institute emailed us his comments about David's entry about a medical study that shows prayer doesn't help bypass surgery patients.
Dear Editor:
The Harvard medical study showing that prayer has no effect on recovery from heart surgery is shocking. It is not shocking that prayer has no medical effects--what's shocking is that scientists at Harvard Medical School are wasting their time studying the medical effects of prayer.
Science is a method of gaining knowledge by systematically studying things that actually exist and have real effects. The notion that someone's health can be affected by the prayers or wishes of strangers is based on nothing but imagination and faith. Such blind belief represents the rejection of reason and science, and is not worthy of serious, rational consideration. What's next? A study of the medical effects of blowing out birthday candles?
Every minute these doctors spend conducting this sort of faith-based study is one minute less spent on reality-based research--research that actually has hope of leading to real medical cures.

AL in chains (yes mark that's an al scott reference)

so 12 years after thier last studio album was released and after about that many years of not listening to the radio (do they even get played on the radio anymore?) I can listen to alice in chains again and really enjoy them. WTF sure they are a part of my childhood and i must have listened to dirt about a million times when i first got it on cassette, and that burnt me out on them. I didn't really like them much after that. i appreciated them and i didn't really hate them but i sure didn't go out of my way to hear them. Now i am watching my videos dvd of them (which i sort-of watched 5 years ago when i bought it) and these guys are REALLY good. i am enjoying the hell out of revisiting my favorite grunge bands. whats next pearl jam? i don't know if i am quite ready for that yet, but maybe some soundgarden... that sounds nice. after watching part of Singles (I'll post a review when i finish it) last night it really got me in the mood to listen to that era of music. Yeah soundgarden rules. well badmotorfinger anyway. I don't think i could listen to spoonman and enjoy it yet.

These videos are pretty damn amazing for the alice in chains songs... or maybe its just compaired to the rush videos.

wierd i wonder when this will be considered classic rock. when kgon starts playing alice in chains im gonna cry.

Rush: Video Collection

Man is this 1995 all over again or what. i put in the rush music and start to read a robert heinlien novel on my weekend. wow. By the way 80's rush is sketchy at best. you can tell from the videos that they know it and aren't really that happy about it. The early videos are pretty sweet too!

and starship troopers is as good so far as i remember it. waaay better than the movie.

River's Edge

Man what's up with fucked up 80's movies. I have been watching many of them lately it seems. This one is especially fucked up. I don't know if the first time i watched it was drunk or something because i remembered it being funny. It isn't funny it's sad and depressing. It is a total kris L movie. fucked up and wierd, he lent me many a movie like that like this one, or bully or gummo, or the legend of boggy creek but these are all fucked up movies.

this one is kinda like a stoner teenager version of stand by me in the 80's.

3 out 5 taco sauce packets for crispen glover who is one crazy muthafucker.

but like werner hertzog said, la w/o crispen glover would just be a desert.

wierd.

Timerider & Philedelphia Experiment

man both of these movies are crappy. They both involve time travel and they both are very 80's movies. Timerider is less worse but that's just because remo williams was the main character. But tht's not much so it's not much better.

Timerider a guy get transported back in time accidentaly to the wild west, with his motorcycle and super helmet. wow it's bad, and the wild west bad guys want his "machine" and some girl falls in love with him, blah ,blah blah.

Philly experiment centers around some navy testing and two sailors from the 40's get thrown into the 80's and it sucks one dude falls in love and doesn't go back. then end.

1 out 5 taco sauce for the both of them.

Match Point

I have a soft spot for Woody Allen movies, so when i heard that he was making a movie with Uberhottie Scarlet Johansen i was curious. This movie is really good, i enjoyed it quite a bit. I usually do enjoy woody allen movies but i usually don't go out of my way to watch them, but the handful that i have watched i really enjoyed, especially Annie Hall and deconstructing harry. i didn't think much of Celebrity though, maybe if i watched it now i might understand it better. I did want to watch the one where the pie fucker plays woody allen and chiristina ricci plays the girl. maybe i'll check that one out.

anyway match point is good.
