spawn the animated series

i can't believe that i liked this at one point. i guess it was cool back 9 years ago. can you believe that this came out 9 years ago. holy shit im old. anyway...this isn't that great, its better than the live action movie, but that isn't saying much. It does have todd macfarlane comentary so you can tell how pompus he really is. and boy is he. he just keeps talking about how cool spawn is. whoopity doo.

yes it's laundry day again and all im doing is sitting in my hockey pj's all day and watching movies and doing laundry. I'm watching movies of my roommates that i haven't seen in a long time. I don't think i have seen this movie since it came out in the theater. It's good, but not great. I'm kinda looking forward to the new one but not really i think it's gonna be a turd. Now i'm watching the spawn cartoon. he has all three seasons. i cant remember if it's any good or not. i'll let you know.

midnight cowboy

I had never seen this movie before and didn't really know what it was about. I bet it was shocking as hell back in '69 when it came out but it's pretty tame by todays standards. It does however hold up. It's not based on shock value it based on characters. I liked this movie quite a bit, jon voigt is amazing it's kinda hard to believe he's angelina jolies dad though. Dustin hoffman kicked ass in this movie. Man was he good back in the sixties and seventies. What the hell happened to him anyway...

Munich

I wanted to see a movie this weekend and the one that i wanted to see wasn't really out till next week. (fuck) So we decided on something else. Clara wanted to see some bullshit drama and i wanted to see some bullshit action. So we comprimised and saw Munich. I was suprised that this movie was so damn good. Granted it was really long, but eric Bana was fucking great. As was Daniel Craig, aka mr. x in Layer Cake. Man that was a good movie. and i'm looking forward to him being the next james bond. So over all this movie was pretty fucking great. Alot of action but it's backed up by a fucked up story that kind of gets the message across that murder/ revenge doesn't fix anything. And with palestinanian vs. isreali it just gets worse. Now i know what you're thinking erica bana as a isreli but it works, trust me and daniel is a british jew. so that works too. It's a long good movie that i like quite a bit.

canuck "kills" ranger

TURIN, Italy -- Czech Republic star Jaromir Jagr, the NHL's leading scorer, left the ice with blood pouring out of a cut on his forehead after being rammed into the boards by Finland's Jarkko Ruutu during their Olympic men's hockey game Saturday.

Jagr was digging for the puck along the boards in the Czech end when Ruutu came across the ice from the far edge of the left circle, his left elbow up and slammed Jagr into the boards.

Jagr, of the New York Rangers, lay face down for several minutes, a pool of blood collecting on the ice before being helped to the locker room with 7:03 gone in the second period.

Jagr appeared to be wearing a thin, old-style helmet that he wore earlier in his NHL career -- a style the league no longer permits because of the amount of protection provided.

Immediately after Ruutu delivered his hit, the Czechs' Filip Kuba shoved Ruutu and Martin Straka -- a Rangers teammate of Jagr -- jumped on Ruutu and pushed him to the ice. Ruutu, of the Vancouver Canucks, was given a game misconduct and Straka drew two 2-minute penalties for roughing.

Jagr was wobbly as he was assisted to the Czech locker room and was not expected to return to the game. His status for Sunday's game against Italy was uncertain, though the world champion Czechs would be favored to win easily even without him.

Jagr, who starred on the Czechs' 1998 Olympic gold medal team, leads all NHL scorers with 40 goals and 48 assists for 88 points, seven more than the Sharks' Joe Thornton. Jagr had two goals and an assist in the Czechs' first two Olympic games.

story Espn.com and pic from svt.se where they have the video but you can't watch it outside of europe. dirty fuckers

GO RUUTU that's my instigator!!!!  Jagr's a punk and an idiot for wearing an old style non-protective helmet.  yeah its the olympics and people should be playing [s]clean[/s] olympic hockey but, it's jarko "dirtiest player in europe" ruutu.  The reason he's a fan favorite is he hits and hits big, and makes people mad and gets them to take penulties.   Granted it back fired here and he and straka got penulties, and if finnish and czechs play each other in the medal round its gonna be a barn burner!

I fucking hate the RIAA

RIAA Says Ripping CDs to Your iPod is NOT Fair Use
February 15, 2006

It is no secret that the entertainment oligopolists are not happy about space-shifting and format-shifting. But surely ripping your own CDs to your own iPod passes muster, right? In fact, didn't they admit as much in front of the Supreme Court during the MGM v. Grokster argument last year?

Apparently not.

As part of the on-going DMCA rule-making proceedings, the RIAA and other copyright industry associations submitted a filing that included this gem as part of their argument that space-shifting and format-shifting do not count as noninfringing uses, even when you are talking about making copies of your own CDs:
"Nor does the fact that permission to make a copy in particular circumstances is often or even routinely granted, necessarily establish that the copying is a fair use when the copyright owner withholds that authorization. In this regard, the statement attributed to counsel for copyright owners in the MGM v. Grokster case is simply a statement about authorization, not about fair use."

For those who may not remember, here's what Don Verrilli said to the Supreme Court last year:
"The record companies, my clients, have said, for some time now, and it's been on their website for some time now, that it's perfectly lawful to take a CD that you've purchased, upload it onto your computer, put it onto your iPod."

If I understand what the RIAA is saying, "perfectly lawful" means "lawful until we change our mind." So your ability to continue to make copies of your own CDs on your own iPod is entirely a matter of their sufferance. What about all the indie label CDs? Do you have to ask each of them for permission before ripping your CDs? And what about all the major label artists who control their own copyrights? Do we all need to ask them, as well?

P.S.: The same filing also had this to say: "Similarly, creating a back-up copy of a music CD is not a non-infringing use...."

man i love warren ellis

But it's okay: because Frank Miller's
going to draw pictures of Batman
beating up Osama Bin Laden. 9/11
really drove that poor guy out of
his mind. Amused to note that it
made mainstream news everywhere.
Doesn't matter if the book's half as
brain-damaged as it sounds, it'll
sell a million copies.

According to links I was sent
yesterday, though, this isn't what's
set the message boards alight. Oh
no. Brian Bendis has written an issue
of a comic called THE NEW AVENGERS
wherein a group of Canadian
superheroes called Alpha Flight all
get killed. Once again, that little
bald guy with the funny eye has
raped the childhoods of forty-year-
olds who should know better
everywhere. And he wore a helmet
with a fin on top when he did it.

Over at DC, grim fin-headed Dan
Didio is feeding those same
childhoods into a woodchipper,
massively overheating the superhero
market -- but he gets away with it
because all those readers know
there's a big smack of the Reset
Button to come. It's interesting to
watch Marvel and DC's different
strategies for growing the market
for their superhero comics. Marvel
wants new readers. DC wants the
old readers back. Neither is going
to work effectively without more
comics stores.

one of the chicks from Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama is gonna be at the portland comic book show. i can't decide if that's really cool, or really terrible.

the really sad part about tonights american dad is that i got all the jokes...

WTF

they say that nothing breeds imatators like sucess. so why the fuck did arrested devolpment get canceled? That show was so damn funny and i keep seeing comercials for shows that are total imatators of it. WTF. goddamn it. That really pisses me off.

more good news, this time from criterion

Dazed and Confused: Criterion is coming out some time soon according to my criterion newsletter. Yes i get a newsletter from criterion. This is gonna kick ass. I'm glad i never bought this. not like fucking man who fell to earth. which i dont want to buy on criterion but i might someday. i spent good money on anchor bays version of it and im kinda pissed about the whole thing. but how could i stay angery at criterion for long...

good news

http://www.cinemaeye.com/index/movienews/more/freddy_is_back_again/

freddy's comin back for more. dare to dream freddy vs. Jason Vs. Michael? kick ass.

Dune :extended cut.

So much has been said about this movie and i have very little else to say really. All i really know is that im glad they didn't make this in the 60's like they were going to. It would have been too fucked up. Salavador Dali playing shadam the 4th? music by pink floyd? production design by HR giger? WTF. I'm glad david lynch made it. It is one of my favorite movies and this extended cut was the first version of it i saw on SCi-fi. So i'm glad it's finally comercially available.

I can finally retire my tired old vhs copy taped from tv.

I'm sad that it didn't do well in the box office because lynch was under contract to make a trilogy and that would have been fuckin fantatstic. All the work and attention to detail put into this movie is great. Some people don't like it. That's fine. Some people like the made for tv version of the shining too, because it's more faithful to the book. is it better fuck no.

i enjoy seeing lynch's vision of what the dune universe looks like. The casting in this movie is one of the best things in the movie. Max Von Sydow as Liet Kiens was kick ass! and Patrick Stewart as Gurney Hallek was inspired does he have the inkvine scar on his cheek? nope, but he's still way better than that duchebag on the tv version. Dean Stockwell as Wellington Yeuh, awesome.

Don't get me wrong i enjoyed the tv version too, but not as much as this one. I am a huge dune dork and i can't wait until something else comes out. I hope they make god-emporer next that would kick ass seeing leto II as a shai-hulud.

Crimson Rivers

So this movie was basicly a french version of a kinda kiss the girls type thriller movie. Brutal murders with cops trying to sovle it. The only real diference was that this was entertaining. Jean Reno fucking rules, and that cassels dude was ok too. I'm looking forward to seeing the two sequels. Basicly there's a big twist and some action and both guys have shady pasts put out to pasture in a small town that just happens to have a serial killer move in about the same time. They have to find out how to work together to solve the crime. Decent.

3 out 5 paquets de sauce à taco

too much free time.

at the bottom of the page now has what movies i've got from netflix right now. It's kindof like a tantalizing preview of what reviews are coming up...or not

Predator 2

this movie isn't nearly as good as the first one. No carl weathers, no arnold, no Jesse Ventura, no "get to the choppa" however they tried to make it good. Garey bussey is usually entertaining and he is in this movie in a role written for arnold to play as dutch, which would have been really cool. and Danny Glover as a beat cop who has to fight the predator, which was written for patrick swayze but he got hurt in the filming of road house. too bad that would have made the space time continuium crack if the swayze and arnold had been in a movie together. fucking shit. maybe swayze wouldn't be in career hell right now if he had been in that movie? eh? probably not.... you're right. you're always right. anyway this movie has the scene where there is an alien skull in the predator ship and that's pretty cool, too bad AVP was such a turd.

if you couldn't tell i've been fucking bored all day and am going the the collection finding movies that i never watched all the way through. I don't know what's next. woo i'm craaaazy.

2 out 5 taco sauce packets.

Assault on Precinct 13 (1976)

The original Assault is directed by one of my top five directors John Carpenter. So i am a little let down about it. Granted it is his second movie. So i cut him some slack, this movie is edited like old people fuck. *see Sarranband* slow the action is long in the making. You can tell that this was made in a different time. A time when people had patience not like now when if a car or building hasn't blown up in the first five minutes people start to talk in the movie. *see my review of "a history of violence"*. but whatever i digress. The movie is about some cops who want to kill a convict because "he knows too much" and for some reason they stop at an abbandonded precint which is actually 9 btw. Then the evil police move in against the good police and the shit hits the fan.

it was bound to happen sooner or later...

I've recently become kindof a myspace whore i've mocked it for years i had a page but didn't care... sigh

i feel dirty

Time Bandits

This is a pretty dman amazing movie. Terry Gilliam is an amazing talent. Everything he does is new and original. This movie is no different. The tale of a kid that sorta gets strung along by a band of theiving midgets who have stolen a magic map that leads to different times and places all to steal gold is pretty fucking genius. Time bandits also has great special effects and set design. The sets look really cool. The SFX look cool and even though they look alittle dated, they still tickle the imagination like the boat on the giants head or the knight coming out of the closet (haha). Just the midgets running around is funny just like in willow. over all i'd say this is a great movie and one of the few movies around that you could watch with a kid and not be bored out of your skull watching.

three out 5 tacosauce packets

Sarraband

Ingmar Bergman's movies are never uppers, but this his latest and "last" (fanny and alexander was also going to be his last twenty years ago)movie is fucking amazing. First off it's a sequel to Scenes from a marriage and again stars Liv Ulmann and Joseph Erland.

These people are in their late sixties and 80's. They give a-fucking-mazing performances. Marianne hasn't seen johann in twenty years and shows up one day and they start right back in where they began. It's fucking amazingly depressing and thought provoking it took me weeks to get in the right mood to watch it. Just like scenes from a marrige only that was 6 hours long.

It's hard to recommend a movie like this. It's a difficult movie. It's 90% dialog with 4 different people in three different settings.

One of the best parts of this dvd is the making of, which is absofuckinglutely amazing. It's fantastic to see bergman at work. The man is 84 years old and he knows exactly what he wants from everyone on crew. No one dares even give him a dirty look or any kind of 'tude whatsoever when he gives these people direction. Or to take a zipper off of some clothing, or he wants the same shirt a different shade of burgendy. He doesn't do it like a hollywood asshole either. There is no malice in his tone, no voice raised, no implied threat, he simply says change it, or do it this way, everyone knows that what he wants is for the best. That he has a bigger vision and that he absolutely knows what he's doing.

Oh have you seen virgin spring? Seventh seal? Wild strawberries? Fanny and Alexander? Scenes from a Marriage?

For fucks sake he knows what he's doing and this movie stands as a testament to that.

An incredible swan song for an incredible career.

uh this movie is pretty good. i remember a lot of marketing when this movie came out and i even still have my wendy's juice glass from when it came out. Sarah and i got them when we were in florida, i believe. Hard to believe i still have it but i do. aske me about it some time. it used to change colors when you put a drink in it. yes i am a dork. the movie holds up alright except for the blue screen parts they look really fake.

Tank

This is one of those movies that is so unbelievable that it is hilarious. Seriously the let some dude own a working tank? Then he fights his way thru a whole state and gets away with it. James Garner is pretty kick ass. The best guy in the movie is Boomer as Garners friend. Although Pony boy as garners son was pretty funny too. He was definatley a pussy commie. Over all it was a decent sunday afternoon movie.

protopage

i added a link to my protopage, right now, at 2:51 im supposed to be working so i don't have a lot of time to play with it, but it's pretty slick. even though you can't use it with opera which makes me sad, supposedly opera 9.0 will support it though.

i highly recomend it.

Ferris Bueler's day off : bueller editon

So i have been working on my eighties movie collection lately and this was a glaring hole in it. So i picked it up and to my dissmy (there was no milk, just kidding) it wasn't nearly as good as i remembered it. i mean come on. This is a classic. The opening is still great where he's talking to the camera and shit, and cameron wears a gordie howe jersey thru the whole movie which kicks ass, but other than that it was just some damn spoiled rich kid, i simpatized with his sister thru the whole fucking movie, which is super lame.

as a movie it is a classic that spawned alot of imitators parker lewis and fbdo the show, just to name a few. but compared to other shit. no fucking thanks.

more sports rants

"Here's what referee Bill Leavy's crew did, point blank: It robbed Seattle. The Seahawks could have played better, sure. They could have done more to overcome the poor officiating. We understand that those things happen and all, but even with all the points Seattle left on the field, there's a good chance the Seahawks would have scored more than the Steelers if the officials had let the players play."

"You see, you can spend weeks -- and we did; two, in fact -- analyzing and dissecting matchups and giving each team the edge in certain areas and trying to figure out how the game is going to play out, but the two things you can't account for are turnovers and officials. The latter were the X-factor Sunday. Edge: Steelers."

"Consider: The Seahawks lost 161 yards to penalties when you combine the penalty yards (70) and the plays the flags wiped out (91). By halftime alone, when it trailed 7-3, Seattle had had 73 hard-earned yards and a touchdown eliminated."

"Still, that was early, and that one didn't change the game as much as did a holding call against Sean Locklear early in the fourth quarter with Pittsburgh leading 14-10. That one wiped out an 18-yard catch by Stevens that would have taken the ball to the 1. Locklear supposedly held Clark Haggans, so instead of first-and-goal at the 1 and the chance to complete a 98-yard touchdown drive and take a three-point lead, Seattle faced first-and-20 at the 29."

"Three plays later, Ike Taylor picked off a Hasselbeck pass, and Hasselbeck went low to make the tackle on Taylor's return and was called for a 15-yard personal foul for a low block. The Steelers set up shop at their 44. That one right there made no sense."

I went thru the roof at this point i was so fucking pissed.

"By contrast, the Steelers might have gotten a break on Roethlisberger's 1-yard touchdown plunge on third-and-goal in the second quarter. Leavy reviewed the play under the booth's orders, since it occurred inside the two-minute mark, and while still photos of an airborne Roethlisberger showed that the ball might have broken the plane of the goal line, he landed short of it and reached the ball over. It was close. Head linesman Mark Hittner didn't seem so sure of it, hesitating before signaling touchdown.

HE DIDN'T FUCKING SCORE ASS-EYED CUM DUMPSTER REFS!!!

"I don't think he scored," Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren said.

It was that kind of evening for the Seahawks, who represent a town where residents know all too well that when it rains, it pours. If having what seemed like 90 percent of the 68,200 in attendance waving Terrible Towels wasn't enough to make Seattle feel as though it was playing on the road, the officials called it as though the Seahawks actually were."

" It's a real shame when, on the game's biggest stage, the major players aren't players at all. We saw too much of the third team in Super Bowl XL and not enough Seahawks and Steelers."

well said!

Mallrats

Man i love this movie. I used to love all the comic references, for a while i was in denail about being a geek and i liked the fact that even though i had quit reading comics i got all the jokes (this was a while ago when it first came out, i as most of you know have quite a habit again with the ole comic books). now my favorite line is the hockey line

"Breakfast, shmreakfast. Look at the score, for Christ's sake. It's only the second period and I'm up 12 to 2. Breakfasts come and go, Rene, but Hartford, "the Whale," they only beat Vancouver once, maybe twice in a lifetime."

I had been wanted to re-watch this for a while, and i finally got to it today. It doesn't hold up very well, im sad to say.

This makes me sad and now im afraid to rewatch all my favorite kevin smith movies.

my sports rant

I do not consider myself a "sports guy" but I do consider myself a "hockey guy". So it came to me as kind of a shock that I cared about the superbowl this year. Seattle actually has a good team. So this is what i get for caring i suppose. I have watched a couple of football games in my time, and i have seen many hockey games, and quite a few basketball games in my younger days and i have never seen a game so poorly officiated as this game. There were many blatent calls that were totally bullshit. The offensive pass interference? BULLSHIT! The holding on the awesome kickoff return? The blocking under the waist? Pitsburg did that all game. I don't have a problem with a tightly called game, in fact i like it, but if you call it on one team you HAVE TO CALL IT FOR BOTH TEAMS!!! The oficiating was so one sided it was unbelieveable Seattle outplayed them all game, pitsburg had like three good plays. fucking bullshit! yes i am biased because i like seattle but come on. This was fucking ridiculous.

X-Men Legends

WOOO

Quadrophenia

"I can't explain" is a song by the Who, but it also is a statement about this movie. I can't explain why the hell anyone likes this movie. Maybe i'm too young to get it. It's about mods in the 60's in england. I like the who ok, im not crazy about them but they have some good songs, but this movie i just didn't care about the protagonist, he's a whiny brat, and i saw his fall coming a mile away maybe in '79 it wasn't as cliched as it is now, but damn. I dunno. I would rather watch 400 blows again that movie was made in '64 but it has universal appeal. The one thing i did enjoy about this movie was the time period. It was interesting to see 60's life in england unfold.

One of those things you hear about...

Last night i went bowling at the elks lodge. Its one of those things that you hear exists but don't quite know what to think of it. It's there my friends and it's scary. For 2.50 a game with free shoes, you can marvel at the magnificent 6 lane bowling alley with all the rainer you can stand for 2.50 a bottle. and saturday night they have "intense bowl" i don't know what that is but it sounds frightening. I had heard tale of this elks bowling for years now but it's pretty sweet and fulfilling to have finally gone there and done it.

Underworld :Evolution

This movie isn't fucking cinema, but it is fucking fun. I was really impressed by the simple fact that it happens like 10 minutes after the first one's over, and you could watch them back to back and it would feel like one big movie. That kicks ass. They explain things that went unexplained in the first one in believable natural ways. Not heavy handed exposition.

My biggest dissapointment with this film was not enough action. Now this sounds dumb and it kinda is but there were no sick ass moves. Like selene shooting the floor in the first one, there was some cool stuff, to be sure but, nothing like the first one. maybe the bar was alittle too high, i dunno.

overall though i did like it and will probably buy it when it comes out because i ma completionistic dork.

on a side note, i think action movie of the fucking year will be ultraviolet, that movie looks so good it hurts, and so does milla jovovich.

V for vendetta looks to be ok. I'm such a nerd and im gonna have to strive to tell myself it's not gonna be as good as the comic like constantine, and ill probably end up liking it about as much as constantine, not hating but not loving either.

"Says Steven Spielberg, never one to turn down a perch on the soapbox, ‘This is a wakeup call to all studios: We need to stop worrying only about making the No. 1 film for the July 4 weekend and realize we can all contribute something in terms of understanding the world and human rights issues,” apparently already forgetting that he directed War of the Worlds, release date: 6/29/05."
